Therapeutic watercolour paintings of Box Hill, Leith Hill, the North Downs, Epsom Downs and the quiet villages of Surrey.
Original paintings, fine art prints, cards and bespoke commissions by Simon Robin Stephens — studio on the Surrey–London border in Carshalton.
I'm Simon Robin Stephens — a watercolour artist based in Carshalton, on the Surrey–London border. Surrey's landscape is where I find my subjects: the chalk escarpments of the North Downs, the wooded heights of Leith Hill, the open grasslands of Epsom Downs, and the clear chalk streams that run through the villages below.
I paint therapeutic watercolours — work designed to calm and restore. I have ADHD, and painting Surrey's big, quiet skies is how I find stillness. That experience comes through in every painting: a restrained palette, space to breathe, a single focal point that holds the eye. My landscapes are used in therapy rooms, counselling practices, yoga studios, and homes across Surrey and South London.
"There is a particular quality of light on the North Downs in autumn — the haze over Epsom, the gold of the beech on Box Hill. I try to hold that in watercolour."
Simon's watercolour Hope In Bloom was chosen by The Salvation Army UK to appear on their 2026 Easter donation thank-you card. 600,000 cards were distributed nationwide — recognition of a style rooted in the landscapes around Carshalton and Surrey.

Open chalk grassland, big skies, and the quiet of the Downs when the racing is over.
The river valley below Box Hill — willows, clear water, stepping stones, and the hush of chalk streams.
Ancient yew woodland and open common land on the ridge above Dorking.
